After a string of 13 wins, the Slidell Tigers's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Ponchatoula by a score of 73-71. Slidell has struggled against the Green Wave recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaden Hookfin, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Hookfin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Mike Parlow was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds.
Slidell's defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-8. As for Ponchatoula, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Slidell will face off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Covington is on a five-game streak of home wins, the Tigers a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Ponchatoula, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fontainebleau will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Green Wave are ranked eighth).
