Baseball Recap: Allen Extends Winning Streak to Four

Allen took a 14-run defeat the last time they faced off against Tupelo, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Allen narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Tupelo 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Tigers since April 24, 2017.

Jax Watkins made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Watkins was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Mason Carter and Bodee Garrett did most of the damage at the plate: Carter scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Garrett scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Landin Tenequer, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-5.

The win was the fourth in a row for Allen, bringing their record up to 6-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.75 hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for Tupelo, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Allen will venture away from home to challenge New Lima at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tupelo, they will head out to take on Wright City at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
