The Roxana Shells will face off against the Calhoun Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Roxana's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Calhoun's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Roxana didn't have the best season last year (they finished 0-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Marquette Catholic on Saturday. The Shells might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by nine runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, Calhoun posted their closest victory since May 16, 2025 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Quincy Notre Dame, sneaking past 4-2.
Riley Pohlman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kiera Sievers, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Anabel Eilerman, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Calhoun was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Roxana's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Calhoun, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Roxana suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Calhoun in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Will the Shells have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
