Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Petoskey). They blew past the Big Rapids Cardinals 24-3 on Friday. The Northmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.
Jordan Malec made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Petoskey got a massive performance out of Alexis Cadarette, who went 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Cadarette is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bre VerCautren, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
Petoskey hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Petoskey's victory bumped their record up to 25-3. As for Big Rapids, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Petoskey will welcome Gaylord at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Northmen surely won't give up without a fight. As for Big Rapids, they will challenge Traverse City West at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
