The Salem Hills Skyhawks will head out on the road to square off against the Timpview Thunderbirds at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Salem Hills will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Salem Hills ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past Spanish Fork 51-49.
Brooke Warren was her usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi King, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Timpview faced the Wasps in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Timpview fell just short of the Wasps by a score of 62-59. Timpview's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Despite their defeat, Timpview saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Leah Atuaia, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Lina Ballin, who scored 14 points along with six assists and six steals.
Salem Hills' win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Timpview, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4.
Salem Hills beat the Thunderbirds 45-37 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Salem Hills since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
