Softball Recap: Shelley's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

After a string of seven wins, Shelley's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 28-25 to the Hillcrest Knights. One positive for the Russets, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Shelley got a massive performance out of Karley Baird, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. With that strong performance, Baird is now averaging an impressive 2.3 runs per game. Vienna Oats was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.

Even though they lost, Shelley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .410. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Shelley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Hillcrest, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

While Shelley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
