The Berthoud Spartans will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the University Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Berthoud focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Berthoud blew past the Rebels, posting a 63-27 victory on the road.
Berthoud found their leader in underclassman Avery Pfohl, who shot 5-for-11 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 48 points and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pfohl has scored all season. Ellie Harper was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, University's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 60-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Resurrection Christian.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Addison Harding, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two blocks for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Moore, who scored 14 points.
Berthoud's victory bumped their record up to 6-12. As for University, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Berthoud have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Berthoud came up short against the Bulldogs in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 52-46. Will Berthoud have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
