The St. Albans Red Dragons had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took down Elkins 66-49 on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for St. Albans, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
St. Albans' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shayla Montgomery led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was JayCee Elzy, who scored 14 points along with 9 rebounds.
St. Albans' victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Elkins, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Albans will take on Calvary Baptist Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elkins, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Scott at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Scott focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Thursday.
