Baseball Recap: Gulf Coast's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Gulf Coast and Fort Myers squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Gulf Coast had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Green Wave by a score of 7-6. Sharks fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Green Wave since on Thursday.

Colton Schlief was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jackson Geiger was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Gulf Coast: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 11-12 otherwise. Brandon Borrego was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Gulf Coast's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-13. As for Fort Myers, their win bumped their record up to 17-10.

While Gulf Coast had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
