If Amelia Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, they should've done a better job of containing Avery Poore. The Knights walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Patriots on Thursday thanks in part to Poore, who had 16 digs and five aces. She has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last four times she's played.
The final score came out to 25-21, 18-25, 25-16, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Southampton Academy hadn't done well against Kenston Forest recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Raiders came out on top against the Kavaliers by a score of 3-1.
Southampton Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-20.
Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot better focus on containing Ali Turner and Audrey Sawyer as the pair were huge in Southampton Academy's win. Turner had five kills and one block, while Sawyer had five digs and five aces. That's the most aces Sawyer has posted over her last eight matches.
Southampton Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. They are 8-2 when they serve at least ten aces.
The win got Southampton Academy back to even at 9-9-1. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
