Murray is 1-9 against Olympus since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Having just played yesterday, the Murray Spartans will jump right back in to play the Olympus Titans at 8:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Murray faced Layton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Murray was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Layton. Murray's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Murray's defeat came about despite a quality game from Treyce Wilson, who scored 19 points along with five assists. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Beh, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Olympus had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six last Tuesday. They snuck past Bingham with a 87-83 victory. Given Olympus' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Bingham is ranked 46th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Murray's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Olympus, their win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1.
Murray ended up a good deal behind Olympus in their previous meeting back in February, losing 83-67. Can Murray avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
