The Wellington Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Highland Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wellington has struggled recently with 37 losses in a row, while Highland will arrive with nine straight wins.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 94-27, which was the final score in Wellington's tilt against Strasburg on Friday. While losing is never fun, Wellington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while Strasburg is ranked 43rd).
Meanwhile, Highland stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They really took it to Estes Park for the full four quarters, racking up a 86-57 victory on the road. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Sawyer Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Jacob Wares, who scored 19 points along with five assists and four steals.
Wellington's loss was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.8 points per game. As for Highland, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Wellington took a serious blow against Highland in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 76-33. Thankfully for Wellington, Hayden Rohn (who scored 11 points along with four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
