Last Saturday, Utica Academy of Science was able to grind out a solid victory over Graphics, taking the game 79-69. The victory was just what Utica Academy of Science needed coming off of a 87-40 loss in their prior match.
It was another big night for Akol Machteng, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Doneilious King j.r, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Mekeel Christian Academy strolled past Newburgh Free Academy with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 75-58. Given Mekeel Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Newburgh Free Academy is ranked 309th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Utica Academy of Science's victory bumped their record up to 4-14. As for Mekeel Christian Academy, their win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.
Utica Academy of Science was dealt a bruising 97-65 loss at the hands of Mekeel Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Utica Academy of Science avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
