South Allegheny has gone a perfect 5-0 against Shady Side Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Gladiators will welcome the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Allegheny has eight straight wins, Shady Side Academy has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
South Allegheny's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Springdale with a sharp 16-0 victory. The Gladiators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Cadence McBride and Cameran Colecchi did most of the damage at the plate: McBride went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two doubles, while Colecchi went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Gordon, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: South Allegheny kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Shady Side Academy couldn't beat Brentwood on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Bulldogs came up short against the Spartans, falling 15-5.
Monique-Claire Fosung was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Jazmine Johnson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
South Allegheny pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Shady Side Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Shady Side Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Allegheny hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .440. It's a different story for Shady Side Academy, though, as they've only averaged .160. Will they be able to contain South Allegheny's hitters?
