The Constitution Generals will be playing at home against the Martin Luther King Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Constitution entered their tilt with Springfield with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Constitution had just enough and edged Springfield out 48-45. Given Constitution's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Springfield is ranked 146th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Perry Fields, who scored 19 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Amir Speights, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, with a playoff game on the line, Martin Luther King rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They walked away with a 44-36 victory over the Dragons.
Martin Luther King found their leader in underclassman Benito Scott, who scored 14 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Makhai Robinson, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Constitution is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Martin Luther King, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Constitution have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Martin Luther King struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
