BVCHEA HomeSchool is 0-4 against Somerville since February of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will face off against the Yeguas at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
BVCHEA HomeSchool was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Milano on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Eagles.
Karli Maresh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tilly Slagle, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Nora Rourk was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
BVCHEA HomeSchool was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Somerville). Everything went their way against Hempstead on Friday as they made off with a 15-3 win. The Yeguas have beaten the Bobcats the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bobcats has come to flipping the script.
Like BVCHEA HomeSchool, Somerville also got a great game from a two-way player: Abigail Richardson. Throwing, Richardson tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Emma Williams pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Richardson went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Williams went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Williams a new career-high.
In other batting news, Audrey Schoenberg was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
BVCHEA HomeSchool now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Somerville, their record is now 4-2.
Somerville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: BVCHEA HomeSchool has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .663. It's a different story for Somerville, though, as they've only averaged .341. Will they be able to contain BVCHEA HomeSchool's hitters?
BVCHEA HomeSchool couldn't quite finish off Somerville when the teams last played last Thursday and fell 7-5. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
