The Wolfson Wolfpack will square off against the Christ's Church Academy Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wolfson took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Englewood get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Wolfpack haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Madison Saling made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Saling was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Isabel Nieves and Emerson Mercer did most of the damage at the plate: Nieves went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Mercer went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Hannah Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Wolfson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Christ's Church Academy entered their tilt with Parsons Christian Academy on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Lions 15-4.
Like Wolfson, Christ's Church Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Madison Rutherford. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Rutherford a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Christ's Church Academy let Carlye Phillips and Kylie Breedlove run wild. Phillips went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Breedlove went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave Phillips a new career-high. Rachel Samaniego was another key player, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Christ's Church Academy pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Wolfson, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wolfson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .413. However, it's not like Christ's Church Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Wolfson's way against Christ's Church Academy when the teams last played back in February, as Wolfson made off with a 17-1 win. Will the Wolfpack repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
