The Starpoint Spartans couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a hard 56-38 fall against St. Mary's on Friday. Starpoint lost against St. Mary's in their previous head to head back in February of 2017, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 63-53 score last time.
St. Mary's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Szablewski, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Israel Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Starpoint's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for St. Mary's, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Starpoint will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cheektowaga at 7:00 p.m. on December 18th. As for St. Mary's, they will be playing at home against Lockport at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
