If the Pueblo East Eagles were riding high off their 61-21 takedown of the Pueblo South Colts last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Pueblo East fell 50-42 to Pueblo West on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Pueblo East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while Pueblo West is ranked 50th).
Despite the loss, Pueblo East saw an underclassman step up: Myah Abeyta scored 17 points along with eight steals. Another player making a difference was Sammie Alzate, who scored nine points.
It was another big night for Trynity Martin, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and three steals for Pueblo West. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna McGraw, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Pueblo East's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Pueblo West, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.
Pueblo East will look to defend their home court on Monday against Pueblo Central at 6:00 p.m. Pueblo Central is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Pueblo West, they will head out on the road to square off against Pueblo Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Pueblo Centennial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
