The Basic Wolves will take on the Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
Monday just wasn't the day for Basic's offense. They came up short against Green Valley on Monday, falling 10-0. The Wolves have struggled against the Gators recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Basic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mercedes Escarcega, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Doral Academy Red Rock had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Green Valley 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Dragons have posted since May 15, 2025.
Megan Upp and EmmaLynn Hussey made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Upp tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Hussey pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Upp went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Hussey went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. That's the most hits Hussey has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabriella Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Kalea Copenhefer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Doral Academy Red Rock kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Basic's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-3.
Basic got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Doral Academy Red Rock by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
