The Mallard Creek Mavericks will venture away from home to square off against the Porter Ridge Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mallard Creek has given up an average of 13.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Mallard Creek not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024. They put the hurt on West Charlotte with a sharp 22-12 win. The Mavericks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Madison Williams and Alondra Rivera-Maldonado were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Williams struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Rivera-Maldonado struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Williams scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6, while Rivera-Maldonado scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Williams also brought in three RBI, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Lampkin, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Mena Kuzara, who scored five runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6.
Mallard Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Porter Ridge posted their closest victory since April 23, 2024 on Friday. They skirted past South Stanly 9-8. With that win, the Pirates brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Mylen Cadiang was a standout: she scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. CJ Moore was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Porter Ridge's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-4. As for Mallard Creek, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4.
Mallard Creek suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Porter Ridge in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Mallard Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
