The Morgan Raiders will face off against the Meadowbrook Colts at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Morgan has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Morgan is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Philo, falling 15-4. Raiders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Electrics since on Tuesday.
Landan Gheen made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Jadyn Reese also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Meadowbrook ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past New Lexington 11-10. The high-scoring effort was just what the Colts needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Cohen Miles made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Miles was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Meadowbrook's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kade Winnett, who went 3-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Meadowbrook is undefeated when Winnett posts two or more runs, but 0-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunner Davis, who went 1-for-5 with two runs and one double.
Meadowbrook kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Morgan's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Meadowbrook, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Morgan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Meadowbrook struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Morgan took their victory against Meadowbrook in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
