AAA Region I recap Sept. 26, 2012
Daniel was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in AAA Region I. Earlier in the week, the Lions defeated Palmetto 35-0.
Daniel extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Mustangs, 35-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for Randy Robinson's team.
Seneca's dynamic duo of Spencer Brothers and Dorian Raines proved tough for Wren to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brothers threw for 226 yards and Raines had 135 yards receiving. Marquis Arnold helped Seneca's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 44 yards.
Korey Thompson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 81 yards as Belton-Honea Path fell to the Hurricanes. Kijafa Martin also contributed to the rushing game with eight yards on the ground.
Seneca's Brothers and Raines have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AAA Region I in both passing and receiving yards. Brothers has thrown for 785 yards this season, while Raines has 37 catches for 631 yards. Thompson from the Bears leads the league in rushing with 509 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Belton-Honea Path takes on West-Oak. Russell Blackston's team's offense has racked up 193 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Warriors have allowed only 301 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wren takes on the Lions. Jeff Tate's team is currently in first, while Daniel is in third.
Emerald suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 72-7 loss to Emerald. The Vikings had been ranked 25th, but fell to 56 following the defeat.
