Madison Plains is 1-9 against Greeneview since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Golden Eagles will host the Rams at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Madison Plains 2.9, Greeneview 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Madison Plains took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past West Liberty-Salem 3-2. The victory was some much needed relief for the Golden Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Gavin Rhoads made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Evans, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Greeneview waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Irish 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jaden Van Tress was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Wyatt Porter was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Greeneview hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in five consecutive contests.
Greeneview pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Madison Plains, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Madison Plains has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greeneview struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Madison Plains suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Greeneview when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
