The Wewahitchka Gators will take on the Trenton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Wewahitchka is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They had just enough and edged out Blountstown 10-8. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Gators as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Severa Haney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lauren Brant, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Paityn Suber, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Trenton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on North Marion with a sharp 13-1 win on Thursday. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
MacKenzie Fisher made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Fisher was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Makenna Young was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Payton Campbell was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Trenton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Trenton's win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Wewahitchka, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-6.
Wewahitchka might still be hurting after the 14-6 defeat they got from Trenton in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Wewahitchka have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
