The Griggsville-Perry Tornadoes will head out on the road to take on the South County Vipers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Griggsville-Perry is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.
Even though Griggsville-Perry has not done well against the Panthers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Griggsville-Perry strolled past the Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 35-21.
Griggsville-Perry's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt Lipcaman, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Michael Myers was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, South County humbled the Minutemen with a 74-18 victory. Given South County's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Minutemen are ranked 635th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Griggsville-Perry is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. As for South County, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-7.
Griggsville-Perry skirted past the Vipers 45-43 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Griggsville-Perry since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
