Baseball Recap: Downingtown West Beats Bishop Shanahan for Their Third Straight Victory

Downingtown West had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Bishop Shanahan Eagles as they made off with a 7-1 win. This was a revenge game for the Whippets: when they faced off against the Eagles on April 1st, they had to take a 2-1 defeat.

James Posner made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Downingtown West is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Posner was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Downingtown West got a great performance from Austen Frye as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Frye has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Zach Slade, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Daniel Kershner also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Downingtown West pushed their record up to 7-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Shanahan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.
