The Wiley Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Cheyenne Wells Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Wiley took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over Springfield. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Grant Mauch was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up six earned runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Dixie Bitner was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Devonte Pizarro was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
12 must be Cheyenne Wells' lucky number: they beat Stratton with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Tigers beat the Eagles by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-6. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Mason Marriott, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Trey Scheler, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Cheyenne Wells was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Wiley pushed their record up to 3-9-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Cheyenne Wells, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Wiley suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Cheyenne Wells when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
