The St. Teresa's Catholic Crusaders won the last time they faced the First Academy Lions, and things went their way on Monday too. St. Teresa's Catholic came out on top against First Academy by a score of 46-35.
St. Teresa's Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ricardo Resendez led the charge by scoring 16 points. Another player making a difference was Sermario MJ Wiggins, who scored 11 points.
Despite the defeat, First Academy saw an underclassman step up: Logan James dropped a double-double on ten points and 23 rebounds. Those 23 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Peacock, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, First Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
St. Teresa's Catholic's win bumped their record up to 1-2. As for First Academy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Teresa's Catholic will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southwest Georgia STEM Charter at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024. After both having extra time off, First Academy and Colquitt Christian Academy will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another on January 5, 2024. Colquitt Christian Academy is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
