Softball Recap: California Drops Highest Score of Season Against Dublin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask California). They blew past the Dublin Gaels 18-7 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Audrey Cotton looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, California got a massive performance out of Jayda Crosby, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Crosby a new career-high. Kayla Steel also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

California was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in 11 consecutive games.

California has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Dublin, they dropped their record down to 2-16 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.

Coming up, California will square off against Carondelet at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Grizzlies surely won't give up without a fight. As for Dublin, they will challenge Dougherty Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Gaels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
