The St. John Paul II Academy Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Somerset Academy - Canyons, posting a 90-62 win on the road. The victory was just what St. John Paul II Academy needed coming off of a 88-60 defeat in their prior match.
Cristian Rosado was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that he posted eight or more assists. Dior Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five steals.
Despite the loss, Somerset Academy - Canyons still got an impressive performance from Louis Stoitchkov, who scored 20 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Diaz, who scored 15 points.
St. John Paul II Academy now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. John Paul II Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face North Broward Prep at 4:30 p.m. on January 20th. North Broward Prep will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Grandview Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Grandview Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 games -- so hopefully Somerset Academy - Canyons likes a good challenge.
