A big part of St. Paul Lutheran's victory came down to the chemistry between Creyton Sheets and his top target Easton Sheets. Creyton threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns while Easton threw for 55 yards and four TDs while completing 80% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Easton a new career-high in passer rating (154.2). Tate Kreisel did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 39 receiving yards.
St. Paul Lutheran's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. Sheets refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. St. Paul Lutheran received some extra help from Sheets, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Concordia faced Wellington-Napoleon in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Friday. The Fighting Orioles took a 28-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Surprisingly, this marked the Fighting Orioles' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
St. Paul Lutheran will have to contain Nephi Hon as he made an impact in Concordia's last game. He rushed for 44 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 101 yards and one touchdown. Hon didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles and defended two passes.
The defeat snapped Concordia's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-3 record. As for St. Paul Lutheran, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: St. Paul Lutheran has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 266.8 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Concordia, though, as they've been averaging only 78.2 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?
