The Fillmore Central Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 54-29 loss at the hands of Elmwood-Murdock. Fillmore Central was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-11.
Fillmore Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordyn Stassines, who scored five points along with nine rebounds. Jae Gewcke was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Tatum Backemeyer was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points for Elmwood-Murdock. Backemeyer is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Delaney "laney" Frahm, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Fillmore Central's loss was their seventh straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-13. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.0 points per game. As for Elmwood-Murdock, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.
Fillmore Central will be playing at home against Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Centennial and Fillmore Central are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Elmwood-Murdock, they will head out on the road to square off against Freeman at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Freeman is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
