Having just played yesterday, the Ocoee Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Oak Ridge Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Ocoee put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Monday. They really took it to Edgewater for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-29 win at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Ocoee has posted since December 15, 2023.
Ocoee's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Hannah, who scored 18 points along with six steals and two blocks. Hannah is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jayla Weiser, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and six steals.
Meanwhile, Oak Ridge scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They blew past Cypress Creek, posting a 76-41 win on the road. Given Oak Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Cypress Creek is ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ocoee pushed their record up to 14-4 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Oak Ridge, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Ocoee beat Oak Ridge 34-27 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ocoee since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
