The Hoxie Mustangs had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Melbourne 41-6 at home. Hoxie's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Hoxie had a senior duo take command as Kayden Glenn threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes and Camden Brooks rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. Brooks was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards. Prechton Wilkerson also helped out with an impressive 82 receiving yards.
Hoxie pushed their record up to 11-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Piggott and 2-9 Paragould (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 27.3% over those games). As for Melbourne, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Hoxie will face off against Mansfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mansfield is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Melbourne does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
