Baseball Recap: Yoakum's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Yoakum won against Rice Consolidated last Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Raiders. The win was nothing new for the Bulldogs as they're now sitting on three straight.

Garrett Green made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Yoakum is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8-1 otherwise. Green was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Yoakum let Brett Lerch and Jamar Hopkins run wild. Lerch scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Hopkins scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Hopkins has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braden Berger, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Yoakum was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are undefeated (3-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Yoakum's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Rice Consolidated, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 17 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yoakum will host Edna at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Cowboys at the right time seeing as the Cowboys are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Rice Consolidated, they will be playing at home against Columbus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
