Baseball Recap: Lincoln Prep's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Santa Cruz Valley, Lincoln Prep was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Lightning, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Finn Dilley made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cash Luce, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Lincoln Prep is 4-1 when Luce posts two or more runs, but 0-5-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jackson Platt, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Lincoln Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert Classical Academy only posted a batting average of .143.

Lincoln Prep's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-6-1. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5-1 record this season.

Lincoln Prep will look to defend their home field on Friday against Superior at 3:45 p.m. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they will challenge San Carlos at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
