The South Vermillion Wildcats entered their tilt with the Clay City Eels with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. South Vermillion sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-52 win over Clay City on Saturday. Despite the win, that was the fewest points South Vermillion has scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Vermillion to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brayson Shoults, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The match was Shoults' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Bush, who scored 11 points along with five assists and four steals.
South Vermillion's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Clay City, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.
South Vermillion will head out on the road to face off against Southmont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southmont will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 247th, while South Vermillion is ranked 88th). Clay City will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Riverton Parke at 6:30 p.m. on December 28th.
