Baseball Recap: Cumberland Gap Sets Scoring Season-High Against Thomas Walker

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cumberland Gap). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Thomas Walker Pioneers a 27-0 shutout on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won five in a row.

Tate Murphy made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cumberland Gap is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise. Murphy was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kole Carter was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Jaden Pearman was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Cumberland Gap always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .914. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cumberland Gap's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Thomas Walker, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cumberland Gap will challenge Gibbs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Thomas Walker, they will face off against Harlan at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
