After flying high against the Cedar Key Sharks last Tuesday, the Meadowbrook Academy Mustangs came back down to earth. Meadowbrook Academy took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Saint Francis Catholic on Thursday. It was the first time this season that Meadowbrook Academy let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Meadowbrook Academy had strong showings from Tico Smith, who scored 22 points along with five steals, and Gaige Daugherty, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 46.8% of Meadowbrook Academy's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
It was another big night for William Collett, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds for Saint Francis Catholic. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Collett has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Banks, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Meadowbrook Academy's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for Saint Francis Catholic, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games.
