The Southeast Halifax Trojans lost against the Weldon Chargers back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Southeast Halifax took a hard 67-48 fall against the Chargers. Southeast Halifax has struggled against the Chargers recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Southeast Halifax's loss came despite strong showings from Kemorriya Evans and Janiyla Pierce. Evans dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, while Pierce almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Evans has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Jackson, who scored four points.
Weldon found their leader in underclassman Kamya Coles, who dropped a triple-double on 31 points, 18 rebounds, and 11 steals. Coles is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shaelyn Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine steals.
Southeast Halifax has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season. As for Weldon, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Southeast Halifax will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Warren County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Weldon, they will be playing at home against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northampton County is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
