After flying high against the Conecuh Springs Christian Eagles on Friday, the Southern Christian Patriots came back down to earth. Southern Christian's tough 47-23 loss to Evangel Christian on Saturday might stick with them for a while. Southern Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-7.
Southern Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Camdyn Oswald, who scored nine points. Chloe Oswald was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Evangel Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hannah Benson, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie Wells, who scored 13 points.
Southern Christian's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Evangel Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Christian and Springwood will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Springwood presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southern Christian in Alabama (Springwood is ranked 122nd, while Southern Christian is ranked 321st). As for Evangel Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Edgewood Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Edgewood Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
