The Woodward Academy War Eagles will face off against the Lakeside Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Woodward Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Woodward Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over Arabia Mountain. The War Eagles haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Cymone Woodfaulk made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only two earned runs while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Kaitlyn Weeks was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August of 2024. Another player making a difference was Claire Cavanaugh, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Woodward Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lakeside couldn't beat Chamblee on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the second inning. The Vikings fell 10-5 to the Bulldogs.
Porter Bemiss made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Willow Wilson was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Lakeside's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-11. As for Woodward Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.
Lakeside's pitching crew better be locked in on Monday. Woodward Academy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. It's a different story for Lakeside, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Woodward Academy in the park?
Woodward Academy might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Lakeside in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Can the War Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
