The South Dearborn Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their ninth straight loss. They took a 42-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lawrenceburg. While losing is never fun, South Dearborn can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Lawrenceburg is ranked 165th).
South Dearborn lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bernadette Wismann, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Natalie Cantrell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Lawrenceburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aubree Labazzo led the charge by scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Labazzo has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Knigga, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
South Dearborn has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Lawrenceburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Dearborn will square off against Franklin County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Franklin County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. As for Lawrenceburg, they will head out on the road to challenge Greensburg at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Averaging 63.1 so far this season, Greensburg's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Lawrenceburg better be ready for a challenge.
