The Peninsula Catholic Knights entered their tilt with the Cape Henry Collegiate Dolphins with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Peninsula Catholic breezed by Cape Henry Collegiate at home to the tune of 93-44 on Tuesday. Given Peninsula Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Cape Henry Collegiate is ranked 163rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peninsula Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was EJ Joyner out in front who scored 22 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Devin Gaines, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Peninsula Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Peninsula Catholic will square off against Steward at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Peninsula Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, they will head out on the road to square off against Norfolk Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cape Henry Collegiate is facing Norfolk Christian at the right time seeing as Norfolk Christian is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
