Basketball Recap: Wetumpka Beats Tallassee for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Wetumpka had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They managed a 67-61 win over the Tallassee Tigers. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Tigers are ranked 337th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Wetumpka to victory were Andrew Voyles and Benjamin Tucker. Voyles went 8 of 14 en route to 24 points along with five assists and five steals, while Tucker dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tom Suddith, who posted nine points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Wetumpka smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Tallassee still got an impressive performance from Sawyer Compton, who had 27 points. With that strong performance, Compton is now averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game. Tiny Green was another key player, putting up nine points.

Wetumpka has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Tallassee, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Wetumpka wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-31 victory against Chilton County on the 12th. As for Tallassee, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Tallassee Tigers duke it out with the Trinity Presbyterian Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tallassee is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.7 points per game this season.
