The Murphy Panthers suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (39-36), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points they have scored all season.
Despite the loss, Murphy saw an underclassman step up: Cordairus Dixon scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Dixon is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Deangelon Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Murphy's defeat dropped their record down to 16-8. As for McGill-Toolen, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Murphy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Saraland at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Saraland has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19. McGill-Toolen won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Robertsdale at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Robertsdale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 276th, while McGill-Toolen is ranked 43rd).
