Monroe is 9-1 against the Colts since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Monroe Redhawks are on the road again and plays the West Stanly Colts at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Monroe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Wednesday.
Monroe struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Warriors had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Monroe was the victim of a tough 69-44 loss at the hands of the Warriors. Monroe was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-18.
Despite the defeat, Monroe saw an underclassman step up: Bryson Simpkins scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamari Clark, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, West Stanly had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 68-55 victory over Parkwood. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for West Stanly, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.
Monroe was able to grind out a solid win over the Colts when the teams last played back in January, winning 50-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monroe since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
