Serra Catholic is a perfect 5-0 against Bishop Canevin since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Eagles will welcome the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Serra Catholic sitting on seven straight wins and Bishop Canevin on three.
On Thursday, Serra Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over Riverview, taking the game 5-1.
Serra Catholic's win was truly a team effort as nine different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bodi Rieger, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Serra Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bishop Canevin got the win against Clairton on Wednesday by a conclusive 18-5. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won seven games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Kole Olszewski and Tyler Maddix made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Olszewski pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Maddix struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. At bat, Olszewski went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run, while Maddix went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Bishop Canevin got a massive performance out of Kellen Andruscik, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The Crusaders are undefeated when Andruscik posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Aaryn Edwards was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Serra Catholic pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Canevin, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Both Serra Catholic and Bishop Canevin just can't seem to miss. The Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Bishop Canevin struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Serra Catholic's way against Bishop Canevin in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, as Serra Catholic made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
