The Independence Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Buckeye 67-9. Independence has not had much luck with Buckeye recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
It was another big night for Amayah Leyva, who scored 33 points along with eight steals for Buckeye. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Leyva has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tia Chapman, who scored 14 points along with seven steals.
Independence's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.7 points per game. As for Buckeye, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Glendale at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Glendale is ranked 267th, while Independence is ranked 290th). As for Buckeye, they will head out on the road to take on Washington at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Washington is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
